The driver, who was able to get outside the vehicle, escaped without injury in the incident, which occurred around 10 p.m. on Ford Road.
The SUV was resting on its side in the river when the Westport Fire Department arrived at the scene.
The vehicle was secured and stabilized by the rescue company. Two firefighters wearing “cold water” rescue suits entered the water and confirmed no additional occupants were in the vehicle.
The last fire department unit cleared the scene at 11:30 p.m.
The fire department responded with two engines, one rescue truck, and the shift commander. Engine 6 from the Coleytown Fire Station also responded.
